  • Really dead TiVo!

We had a power failure this morning, and when I came home from work I found a dead TiVo.

From what I've read in the troubleshooting page, it looks as though both the power supply and HD are bad.

Has anyone had a similar situation? Is it possible to revive my TiVo! with a new hard disk and power supply? I'd like to be pretty confident before spending the cash on the replacement parts.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Erik

    Details:

    TiVo! Series 2 TCD24008A
    Lifetime Service
    No LEDs light up
    Fan works
No HD noise (it's too quiet)
Does not power usb wifi adapter
No video (no welcome screen or anything)

When plugged in to S-Video, there's a horizontal white bar that just keeps coming down a black screen, but I think that's probably just an issue with the line being connected with no signal.

I disconnected the IDE cable from the HD and tried again, the hard drive spins up, but otherwise I get the same results.

I tried firing it up again, and the HD does spin up now -- so the biggest culprit seems to be a defective chip (ugh). Or maybe everything's dead!

That really sounds like a bad power supply. We'd recommend starting with that:

      Been here a long time . . .
