  • Verizon FIOS vs. Directv/Tivo

    Hi All,

I have the new Fiber Optic DSL. Verizon is touting their TV option with DVR capabilities ( motorola, i think).

We really love the time warping feature of the Directv Tivo set up. We hate to give that up for less expensive Cable and DVR.

I am trying to confirm if this same Time warping feature would be available via the Fios set up. ( i have checked with verizon folks and they can't confirm or deny.)

    Thx,

    WR

We really haven't seen the FIOS DVRs, and as far as we know, they use several different models. But FIOS does work the TiVo Series3 if you have HD, and that way you get the best of everything.
    Been here a long time . . .

      Verizon FiOS

Hi. We just got our Verizon FiOS TV installed. We also have the telephone & internet (we like those).

Couple of things we don't like about Verizon tv:
Verizon Customer Service told us our Samsung TiVO would work with their system. The installer told us no. So, being cautious we got one of their DVR units rather than two. We're unhappy and want to find a way to get our TiVO units to work on the FiOS.

Verizon is installing the Motorola QIP 6416-2 HD/DVR. We do not have HD tv sets but they install HD DVRs anyway. What we don't like about the units:

      1) The controller does NOT have a page up or down feature - it's scroll only.
      2) The menu is slow slow slow.
      3) There is NO wishlist feature! How stupid of them. There is a Series manager but no wishlist at all.
      4) The ff and reverse feature does not work well. It freezes, hops, skips, and jumps when you try to pause, ff, or rewind.
Considering this is a Motorola product I have to say it is very disappointing indeed.

If you know how to disable the receiver function on the Samsung SIR S40480R or S4120R units, I would sure like to know how as we really want our TiVO back.

On the other hand, we live in Virginia Beach and get a good amount of wind and rain that creates problems with our former dish and cable setup. So, for TV the Verizon FiOS is good, but their Motorola DVR is a big disappointment.

FIOS Motorola DVR swap tuners question

I just got FIOS and love the picture etc but the dvr is obviously a little lacking. Does anybody know how to switch between the 2 tuner as there doesn't seem to be a "swap" buitton on the remote??
I have tried about everything but can't figure it out. Last on the remote doesn't do it as that just takes you to the last channel you were watching.
Very frustrating and silly if it's not possible to do this.

Verizon Fios TV vs Comcast TV

Just installed Fios TV 2 days ago...what a disappointment compared to the Comcast HD service I had for a year. Comcast offers a vast amount of High Def content on their On Demand Service, while Verizon Fios TV offers none! Not even the pay-per-view movies are offered in HD. Comcast offers loads of HBO, Showtime, Starz High Def On Demand...Verizon none. I just spent hours on the phone with Verizon and most of their agents know little about HD.

I also think the HD picture quality on Comcast is superior and I am seriously thinking of switching back to Comcast...what a disappointment.
