I must replace a series2 harddrive. I've checked weaknees' forums and read alternative replacement techniques, and haven't decided on a weaknees' kit or DIY. But in exploring weaknees' DIY instructions there is reference to removing IDE ribbon from drive and motherboard, and replacing with a new IDE ribbon cable, and saving old ribbon cable. I've searched numerous forums to find out the reason for requiring a replacement cable, but cannot find a reason. I also note other DIY forums don't mention replacing original ribbon cable. I understand using a replacement, if adding a second drive, but I'm replacing the original drive. Thank you, jm
