  • New hard drive - TiVO acting like I have 2 inputs but I don't and won't record

I just replaced my hard drive with a new one from weaknees.

I only have 1 input into my TiVO. So, I have never been able to watch 1 channel and record another. Also asks me to change channels when the time comes or it just changed.

Not now though. Now it doesn't say anything. Just stays on channel I am on and the recording light comes on. As though I have a second input.
If I then turn to the channel that is supposedly being recorded it is a black screen.
My setup indicates I just have 1 input enabled.
I am not sure what could be the issue here or how to address it.

What model TiVo? This sounds like a setup issue. I'd recommend you go through guided setup again.

I did go through the entire setup again and I selected single input again.
      Everything else seems to work.

Right now its doing it actually Red light is on. Says its recording another channel. Turn to that channel and the picture is black.

Its DirecTV Hughes SD-DVR40 - that is what the System information shows now anyhow.

This is the drive I ordered: Hughes HDVR2 TiVo Upgrade Kit: Replace with one 160gb hard drive

The System Information had said HDVR2 prior to the upgrade.

That is fine; the HDVR and SD-DVR40 are compatible and identical. You have some other problem. Have you tried unplugging the unit and plugging it back in?

Rebooting is the oldest trick in the book! Glad it worked.
            Been here a long time . . .

Yeah, sorry I am an amateur. I got my TiVO 6 years ago with DirecTV and this is my first alteration to it.

Well, six years on one drive is pretty good. Luck seems to be with you.
