  • Wasn't the Hard drive

    Copy of my previous post....
Have a Series 2 140 hour TiVo. It is about four years old. I recently moved and changed from Comcast to Directv. I did the setup, never got a picture or sound, aside from TiVo screens. I took all the cables apart, etc. I got picture and sound! Yes....Error S03, nooooo! Did reboots, Pause-57s, etc etc, now I have no picture, no sound, and Error S03. I have wasted enough time. Does this sound like a failing hard drive? I have a lifetime subscription so I would like to continue with the unit. Does this sound like it is curable with a new hard drive?

OK, so I got the new hard drive. Easy install as expected. Meticulously went over the cables (I used to be an installer so this is not new to me). Still nothing. No sound (aside from the TiVo feedback sounds), no picture (when I go to video settings it detects a video signal on any input I try). What's next? As you can see from my previous post I had recently moved so I fear there was some sort of board damage. Are there replacement boards? If I get a unit from some place such as ebay can I exchange the guts and keep my lifetime subscription? What about repair? If the minimum repair charge is higher than I would like to pay can I return the drive to weakness?

Wow - sounds like a power supply failure now. Are you sure the cable connecting the power supply to the motherboard is secure? It's a flat white ribbon cable.

Hello Michael. From the descriptions of the power supply issues, it's not that. All the lights work, the fan works, the TiVo screens all work, just has no output whatsoever. Everything aside from the obvious is working as designed. Is the issue I described a symtom of a power supply gone bad? I am hoping for some sort of certainty as the additional funds l am looking to put in this thing is reaching the limit.
      Thanks

I don't get it. How do you know the TiVo screens work if it has no output whatsoever?

I should say that the Tivo Screens and sounds are the only output. No other video or audio. I would say it is an input issue but the change video setting "detects a signal".

But you don't see the video in the background at that step during setup?

No, nothing. A black hole of a screen draining my will to live. Honestly, Michael, I thank you for all your help but I am going to start the return process on the hard drive and just buy a new unit. I got 4 and a half years out of this one. Not bad.
