My HDVR2 has a flaky tuner (swapped the cables around to verify). The hard drive in my brother's HDVR2 cratered some time ago. Since he has moved on to the DTV-style receiver, I acquired his HDVR2 to replace mine. Received and activated a new access card for the acquired unit, swapped the hard drive (a less than 2 year-old weaKnees 142 hr upgrade) and fired it up.
Message in the "Now Showing" area says I have a hardware problem - can't record or watch recorded programs. Restarted the unit and still get Error #51. DirecTV tells me error #51 requires that I completely erase all settings/content on this drive and start all over again. Is this true? If so, why?
If not (or partially) true, what can I get away with NOT erasing? I have 30+ hrs of stuff I really want to watch.
Thanks.
