  • Will HR 10-250 work with Non HD Direct TV Service?

I currently have a Samsung S4120R TIVO hooked up to my Direct TV (its about 4-5 years old). My Hard Drive has died. So I will either replace the hard drive, or buy a used version of the Samsung Model I currently have to to replace it

However I will be switching to Direct TV with HD service in the early spring...Once we get a New TV (HDTV)...At that point I will Have To Have TIVO (we have a NON-TIVO DirecTV DVR in the bedrom, and it just does not compare and I cant stand it)...from what I can tell , the Hughes HR10-250 TIVO for DirectTV HD is the way to go

My question is this, instead of buying or upgrading my Samsung S412OR to get me thru a few months, then buying a HR10-250 in 3-4 months, Can I just get the HR10-250 Now, and will it work with my current Direct TV Service (Non-HDTV Direct TV service)

In other words, if I get the HR10-250 for HD Direct TV, but I dont have a HDTV or HD Direct TV Sevice, will it work and be compatable with my current standard definiton Direct TV Service?

Yes, you can use an HR10 now, but it does not get 75% of the HD stations that DIRECTV offers. you are probably better off fixing the Samsung and waiting for the new DIRECTV HD TiVo that should be coming out in the 2nd half of 2009.
