  • HD-DVR - HR22-100 power usage

How much electricity does it use when it's off?

It's never really "off." It's always running so that it can buffer and record. So it pretty much always uses about the same amount of power.

The only way to really cut the power is to pull the plug.

We use the Western Digital Green Power drives in our Terabyte upgrades, and these drives use as little as a third the power of other drives.

      Green Power Drives

I just purchased your HR-22 with 1.5TB drive last week. Did I get a green power drive?

Also, what is best for the longevity of the drive/DVR in the long term, to "power off" the HR-22 every evening, or simply leave it on?

      Thanks

The 1.5 Terabyte is a Seagate drive - WD doesn't have that size available yet.

You should leave it on always. For many drives, the power down/power up cycle is more potentially damaging than leaving them running all the time, plus if you power it off, you'll miss recordings and have to wait for it to boot when you want to watch TV.
