Tivo with two hard dives stuck on powering up

I have a series 2 TCD240080 that had the two hard drive kit installed a few years ago. Now it cycles between start up and never makes it to tivo central. Where can I get directions to turn it back into a one hard drive so I can test the drives. Is it possible that only one hard drive is bad. I do have another unit that is the same model. It is starting to have the random jitter in the picture, is that hard drive related as well. Is 6 years about the life expectancy of the hard drive?

You'd need a copy of the TiVo OS for that model to turn it back into a one-drive unit. Our best recommendation is to get a "replace" kit for that unit from here:
