  • DirecTivo R10 delay when I use 30 second skip

I own 3 DirecTivo R10 devices. On one of them, I have replaced the original hard drive with a 250 gigabyte unit.

On that unit, there is an intermittent problem when using the 30 second skip. When I press the button, I hear the sound that tells me the signal was received, but some time passes before the skip is actually executed. The delay is usually between one and 3 seconds.

Sometimes there are similar delays with the fast forward key.

I've had the new drive for a little over two years. The problem seems to have developed in the last year or so.

I just discovered your forums, and I did some searching, but I don't see any mention of this problem. Has anyone reported such a problem before?

Thanks the help you give the Tivo community!

    Best regards,

    Dave

It sounds like you might have some interference in that room. Have you tried moving that R10 to a different location to see if the problem goes away?

Sorry if I didn't describe the problem well.

The Tivo receives the signal from the remote. I can tell that, because it makes the usual chirp sound immediately. And even if I press no other keys, it will eventually execute the thirty second skip.

That seems to me like something going on inside the Tivo, rather than something interfering with the proper operation of the remote.

      Does that make sense?

Believe it or not, remote interference can still cause this type of behavior, so trying it in a different room is still a good idea.

If that doesn't do the trick, then you should try a new hard drive, since a failing hard drive often accounts for slowness:

I'll swap the living room Tivo with the bedroom Tivo, and see if the problem stays with the room.

          Thanks!
