How can I avoid the initial setup call

I have an old TIVO - the kind that used to make phone calls to get software updrades and 'check in' . I upgraded my hard drive but no longer have a land line. Nor do I know many people who have such things. Is there a way to avoid this part of the setup so I can use the TIVO features again?

If it's too old to have a network connection, then, no, you can't get past that step without a landline. Maybe at your office you could use a fax line with a small TV?
