Ir Cable options

I recently purchased an HD DirecTV DVR and want to control it with TiVo, so I hooked up the IR device, but seems sluggish. Is there another way like the serial cable method I used before with Time Warner? I know that DirecTV does not have a serial connection on box, so help!!!!

Really, you can't reliably control one DVR with another. A DVR expects to control a relatively dumb box, one without a menu or interactivity.
