Remote control

Hi
I have a Dsr704 Phillips upgraded to 2 hard drives. it has worked great for years. Now when it boots up i can change channels for about 5 minutes then the remote no longer changes the channel. So i reboot the system again and the same.The remote is good, the remote light on the front of tivo turns amber every time.i took it apart the DVR and cleaned,it i cannot find any obvious problems.Any help would be great. i suspect something is heating up and failing but what?.

When you can't change channels with the remote, do the buttons on the front panel work?

You can try new faceplate:

and that might do the trick. Or you could send it to us for a diagnosis and potential motherboard repair. But if it just happened one day when you weren't inside the unit, then it's likely to just be the faceplate.
