  • Suggestions not recording / blank list

Since late August my S1 Sony Tivo with a WeaKnees HD upgrade has not been properly listing or recording Tivo Suggestions.

I've tried toggling the record suggestions setting, rebooting, deleting all thumbs history and adding new thumbs, repeating guided setup, etc.

Occasionally a suggestion will get recorded but the frequency is much much less than normal and the recorded shows don't seem appropriate given the thumb history. Repeating guided setup produced a list of suggestions, nearly all pre-rated movies. But few were recorded and over the next few days the list emptied. No new suggestions are coming in.

From other Tivo forums I see that dozens of people have been affected by this. S2 owners have been able to recover, but S1 owners have not had a resolution. Tivo UK owners have had their suggestion service dropped permanently and I'm afraid the same thing is happening to S1 owners in the US. Tivo and Sony phone support has been dreadful. They are completely ignorant of the problem.

Does anyone have some information about this issue?

This is really the first we've heard of this. If you go to your To Do list, you don't see upcoming shows based on your Suggestions?

Could it be that the unit is relatively full and there isn't sufficient space for suggestions to record?

No, I have plenty of free space. Also there are about a dozen pre-August suggestions on the drive that could be deleted to make room for new ones.

The To Do list only has season passes and anything I schedule. The suggestion list, when empty, contains instructions on how to use thumbs, as if it were a brand new unit.

If you have any special resources you can tap to get more info I'd really appreciate it.

Oh. Also, if anyone reading this thread with an S1 Tivo has suggestions that ARE working, I'd like to hear that too.

Sorry to say, we really don't have a good answer. You may have a failing hard drive with a corrupt database - hard to know, but you could try a replacement drive.

Thanks Michael. If it wasn't for the fact that more than a dozen people on tivocommunity.com have reported the same exact problem I might suspect my hardware.

I've got a Phillips series 1 and have had the same problem for about six months now. I've tried all the options listed above as well and have not found a resolution. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There does seem to be a known issue with suggestions, and TiVo is working on it, reportedly.
