  • HR 10-250 and groups

I cant find anything recent on this question, so bare with me. I had a stand alone Series 2 die, and a friend hooked me up with an HR 10-250 that I activated with direct TV, but now I cant stand the fact that I dont have groups in my now playing list. Is there any way to upgrade software on that unit? OR, if I install a new drive will that do it?

What software version is on the unit now?

      Version #

Looks like 3.1.5f01-2-357, but it doesn't say anything about Tivo in the settings, just the unit model and serial, and the Direct TV access stuff.

You need a new software version to get folders; the latest is 6.4. If you purchase a replacement drive kit it will come with that software. I'm not sure why you don't have it, but you should dial in your unit if you haven't been....that should cause a download.

Thats what I thought, but it says I have successfully dialed as of 2 days ago.

Are we sure that since this is a Direct TV unit from back when they contracted out directly with Tivo, that they support recent upgrades?

          Thanks,
          Larry

Definitely. 6.4a only applies to those units - the standalones are at 9.3 and 9.4 these days.

Any way I can force an update if it says it dialed out successfully?

Basically, the update comes over the satellite lines, but gets authorized by a dial-in. So you need to be connected to both SAT and phone at all times, and it should get what it needs. Then, it should just need a reboot to install.

If you go a week with no success, try just a reboot anyway.

Ive been connected to both for a couple weeks now. I will force it to call now at see if it forces anything. If not, Ill TRY to call Direct TV to see if they can do anything from their end. Hopefully, I get somebody who knows what their doing. If not, Ill be back. Thanks for the info.

Also, be sure to try a reboot. Sometimes that helps make this happen.

OK, Michael. Im out of options. Direct TV say that its an automatic update and there is nothing else they can do. I have successfully dialed out numerous times, I have good connection to SAT. Ive restarted the system after the last successful dial. Anything else you can think of, its still at version 3.1.5f01-2-357.

Well, a "replace" kit would have the newer software:

If Im going to buy a drive, can I buy a drive with the latest software to use as the primary, and use the old drive as a secondary?

Yes, but you'd need a bracket and you'd need to reformat the drive.

If the drive is a few years old, we really wouldn't recommend reusing it.

                              Michael,
I guess Direct TV was getting sick of me calling. They are sending me an HR21-700. I know this isn't the Tivo model, but do you know if this proven to be a decent unit? Thanks for all your help.
