  • Losing volume

Hi, I have a Tivo model 540080, hard drive replaced about 14 months ago. Recently while watching tv, either live or recorded, the volume goes out. So far the only solution I have found is to restart the Tivo. If I switch to a different input on the tv (dvd player for example) the volume is fine. This happens about once a day, seeming to be a little more frequent.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong - hard drive again, other? Please let me know if I need to provide more details.

    Thanks!

It's hard to know for sure, but in other TiVo models, losing volume until you restart was a bad power supply. IN your specific model, that is not a common problem, but it might be worth trying a power supply to see if it helps.

      Hi again,
I tried swapping the power supply from my other tivo to see if it would resolve the issue but no luck, the volume still goes out intermittently. Also I have found that if I leave it alone the volume does come back by itself without resetting the box, but it will eventually go out again. Any other suggestions? Thanks so much!

It's probably not worth repairing unless you have lifetime TiVo service. If you do, send us an email and we can get you a quote for repair. Unfortunately, you have a bad chip on the motherboard it seems.
