  • When I Press GUIDE Button, My Tivo Resets

I'm stumped on this one, hoping someone can help. I have a series 2 Tivo (actual Tivo brad) with a 200hr weaknees upgraded hard drive. It's worked like a champ for almost two years. A few weeks ago it stopped recording Season Passes, which I took for a failed connection to pull guide data. Per a suggestion I found on the web, I moved a season pass program up to the top of the list and let the guide reset. Then moved it back down to the bottom. That worked, it started recording season passes again.

Yesterday the Tivo would not allow us to press the guide button. Every time we do the system resets. I can't help but wonder if the two incidents may be related. I'm wondering if the drive is going, but wanted to ask first before I run a kickstart 52 and possibly lose programs. I did run a kickstart 57 and it didn't fix. I also went through guided setup thinking that would reload guide data. It didn't help.

Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks so much in advance! (ps - I've hit guide out of habit about 8 times, hahaha - help!!)

That's almost definitely a hard drive problem. A "replace" kit for your model should fix the problem:

If the upgrade is still under warranty, we can test the drives and go from there.
    Been here a long time . . .

I was mistaken, it was actually purchased March of 2007. Still under warranty? Your page simply says "full manufacturers warranty". EDIT: I see the doc linked from the page (I believe it was the Seagate 200 hour) for the upgrade says 5 years mann warranty. If so, looks like it might be still covered.

You'd want to contact the drive manufacturer for assistance in getting the drive replaced. Once you get the replacement (refurbished) drive, feel free to contact us for assistance in getting it reprogrammed.

Just for future help to people, I tried every kickstart code there is. And the last one I tried, 51 - Software Upgrade, worked. I get the guide now. Might not mean the drive is okay, but at least it's back to working order for now..
