Ok, late last week we apparently had a thunderstorm in which the power temporarily went out. I wasn't home, but this is what I have been told. The tivo was on at the time. When the power came back on the tivo was dead. It was plugged into a surge protector. All we have is a black screen and a few squiggly white lines, no power lights or any noise from anything. First I tried to put the original hard drive back in since I had it here. -no change. I then purchased a new power supply and still nothing. I swapped out hard drives with the new power supply, once again nothing. All I notice is a slight click by the power supply when I plug in unit and thats the only thing it does. I have a lifetime sub. on this so would like to save it if possible. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks -not exactly any type of electronics whiz here by the way.

Have you tried plugging the TiVo in without the surge protector? Do you know that the surge protector is fine? If so, and if you have swapped out the power supply and drive with new parts, then the thunderstorm damaged your mainboard, and your best bet will be a call to TiVo to see what they can do for you. They may agree to replace the unit for a fee and move the lifetime service. -
Yeah, I tried switching up just about everything- different outlets, different TV's, different cables, still nothing but the slightest of clicks when I plug it in. I did call Tivo, but so far they won't help me out at all. I can't get them to budge on the lifetime transfer. I guess I will keep trying until somebody finally gives me a break, or they come out with a new promotion. Until then , I am forced to use torrents or comcast's crappy dvr. oh well

no, I originally did look here but didn't see my model. Ended up getting it off ebay. That guy has good feedback and stated that he would send out another, but I imagine I will have to pay shipping and all that. now I am at the point where it is almost not worth dumping another penny into it. I saw one of these go on ebay with lifetime for $75. I think with shipping I just wasted $18 on the first power supply. Thanks though.Comment

I would expect an eBay seller to re-ship for free if the first product was defective, and not described that way.Been here a long time . . .Comment

That's the problem, I seriously doubt that it is defective and if it were I am sure he would pay. I have no way of knowing without spending more money and I am beginning to think that it is not worth it. These are selling cheap used, even with a lifetime subscription. If I spend another $30-$40 on this I could have just bought another one.-and if I spend $30 more on this and find out it is the motherboard, then I am out $50 with nothing to show for it. I think it is time to cut my losses and beg Tivo for a deal on the transfer. ThanksComment
