  • CableCard AND Box?

I hope this question is not too dumb. TiVo HD. I like the convenience of CableCards, and I want to preserve two-tuner functionality, but I would also like to be able to access content available only through a cable box and record it with TiVo. (I know I can access the content by hooking the box up to a separate TV input, but that will bypass TiVo.) Would there be a conflict with the CableCards if I ran the cable box decoded signal into the cable input? I imagine that IF this would work I would have to have an A/B switch (A=unfiltered cable, B=cable box) to allow the CableCards to tune channels from a complete signal when I was not accessing the box.

If this would not work (and I fear it would not) do you have any other suggestion, or should I forget about it? I have also thought about putting a VHS recorder in line between the box and a separate TV input, but I think that would eliminate the cable box's HD content (and I know I could not record HD).

    My thanks, as usual.

The TiVo HD has no inputs for a cable box. You can't use it with one.

Thank you for not replying "Yes, that question is too dumb," which I realized as soon as I remembered how the HD is set up. Sorry for wasting time.

what if the cable was brought in from the wall to a 1 to three splitter... one cable output to the TiVO HD with cable cards and the other two to a cable box and series 2 dual tuner TiVO? set the Tivo HD on one input to the TV and the other Tivo on a different tv input for viewing purposes. Theoretically this should work allowing for a simultaneous 4 channel recording capability (2 SD and 2 HD). Would this work?

Yup - you could do that, and also set the two TiVos to operate with different remote codes so that you don't accidentally control both at once.
          Been here a long time . . .

cool. also with both TiVos set up on a network switch, shows can easily be transferred between the two. I can only think the of two real value-added aspects of this set-up 1) capture 4 recordings simultaneously and 2) have access to features not yet available through cable cards like pay per view.
