    Hello all,

    My Tivo has been acting up. It is a series 2 model and has worked great up until now. The problem I am having is if my Tivo stays on one channel for a while the video goes black. The sound still works and if the Tivo records on the same channel when it is black. It will record the sound but the screen is black. The only way I can get the video to return is to change the channel. Once the channel is changed the Tivo operates and records normally.

    Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

    That doesn't sound good. What model TiVo? Cable box?

      I have restarted the Tivo and the issue is still there. I have my cable box going into my Tivo. I have a Series 2 240080 model.

        That sounds like a cable box that is timing-out. Do you have other cable boxes in the house? Do they stop sending out video after a certain amount of time of inactivity?

          As far as I know no because when the Tivo goes black I have connected the cable box directly to the TV and the channel worked. I am going to plug the cable directly into my Tivo and bypass the box to test if it is the cable box or the Tivo.

            OK - that should shed some light also, but you won't get premium channels, obviously.

            What outputs go to the TV and the TiVo from the cable box (what types of cables)?

              I have cable coax from wall to cable box, coax from cable box to Tivo, RCA from Tivo to TV.

                So try coax from cable box to TiVo. You'll need to redo Guided Setup to have the TiVo look at coax instead of RCA.

                  I plugged my cable directly into my Tivo for a few hours and everything worked like it should. When I put the cable back into the cable box, a few hours later the channel went black. Therefore, it must be the cable box. I will try to get a new one and see if that fixes the problem.
