Maybe buying new Direct Tivo

I believe the PS is bad in my Direct DVR 40 ( which has a 120gb HD ). The PS should cost about $70 I believe I can get a used DSR 704 or R 10, Questions:
Which would be the better?
Can I swap the HD out of the bad one (assuming its still good into either of the other models)?
What do I have to do with Direct to get another one working?
Swap the card? Get a new card? Get the card with the replacement one activated?

I would be very, very careful with used DIRECTV units. We get calls all the time from people who have purchased them on eBay and elsewhere and can't use them.

You cannot use a DVR40 drive in either unit; the software won't update.

You probably would need a new card, and you'd need to get DIRECTV to activate the new one.
