  • Failed Restore when drive 2 gone

I upgraded by adding a drive to my HDR31202 and then lost the second drive due to user error. I now want to upgrade to a single drive larger capacity, but the original drive comes up as mismatch with volume header when trying to backup/ restore. Is there a way to use this original drive without the married drive? How? I've only seen once in the hundreds of articles I've read so far some one say "yes" and added something about shrinking the drive, but didn't say how.

To make a backup, you will want the two drives connected. If you don't have the two drives, there really isn't a reliable way to make a backup. If you want to have your drive programmed with the correct software, send us an email.

      Second drive reformatted

I reformatted the second drive zeroing out the drive hoping to use it as the hda drive then hit this bump and "concluded" or not???? That the second drive was married to the first drive and thus I cannot backup the main drive without the second drive, but the second drive when I install it with the main drive still comes up as mismatch.

Basically, that's right, you can't backup one drive of a two-drive pair, alone.

          Fixing the problem

Can I repair the second drive, considering the info on it was a millisecond of data when I originally installed it. Is there a "make this drive bootable" or something? I have the hardest time ever running this software smoothly, the instructions are very loosely based on specific variables existing. Yes the mfstools with esate support does seem to be better thant he 2.0 without, but still I have to use a barebones computer to get it to work most of the time and as such I can hardly get a backup file to backup. The smoothest time I had was when I used a linux drive to backup, but then I don't have burn software for linux to copy to cd. I can't get my backup.bak on cd to restore to hard drive either.

Is there not a shrink command for the 2 drive (missing 2nd Drive)? That will make the first drive work? Right now, the tivo will not get past "wait, tivo is starting" without it. Seems like an extremely flawed system that if one drive fails the whole system fails. More drives more likely the lost

As far as we know, the only way to deal with it at this point is to get a new copy of the OS and reformat the "A" drive. Sorry.
