I have a series 2 tivo brand dvr and would like to use the basic dvr functions, - the guide of course, now that I have canceled service. It was working fine until I made the mistake of redoing the initial setup. At this point I can't get past the first connection screen "getting setup info". I no longer have a land phone line so there is no dial tone to get. I need a way to bypass setup and just use the basic record and playback functions. It seems obvious that tivo wants to brick their boxes if you don't continue to pay for their service but there must be some hack that will let me use the hardware that I paid for.
