  • Tivo stuck on "Welcome Powering Up"

Need some help. I had a friend replace my hard drives on a Phillips Direct TV Tivo unit. It worked for about 2 hours than froze. I shut the power off to the unit for about 2 minutes. When I turned it back on the "Welcome Powering Up" message on the gray screen appeared, but unfortunately it's stuck. The 2 hard drives are new, any idea on what it could be? Any help would be appreciated.

You should probably check the drives with the right software - more info is here.

What info or method did you friend use for the upgrade?
    Been here a long time . . .

I have no idea what he did or how he did it but he was sure he knew what he was doing. I'll try and get more information from him and post it here. Thanks for replying so quickly.

Michael, do you think it could be a software issue? If the hard drives are brand new, what else could it be?? How difficult is it to add the software? Thanks.

I think Michael was suggesting that you check the drives with the drive manufacturer's software to determine whether both drives are still good. The link in his post was to various drive manufacturers' websites for testing utilities.

Lets assume that the drives are perfect, what else could it be??

A bad software image may have been restored to the drives, or it may have been done improperly. Or the problems may not be drive related, although that seems unlikely.
