DirecTV HD Tivo dish

I have DirecTV and am looking to upgrade from a regular Tivo to the HD Tivo. I am looking to buy a HR10-250. I understand that that I will be able to get the older HD channels and not the new ones. My question is; do I have to upgrade my dish?

When I looked into DirecTV’s HD DVR I would have to upgrade my dish from a 3 LNB to a 5 LNB dish. Would I have to do the same thing to get the HR10-250 working?

No - the 3LNB dish sees all the satellites that the HR10-250 can see, so if you have a 3LNB, you're all set.
