  • Which hard drive is toast?

I have a Hughs SD-DVR40 unit that years ago I added a 120gb drive to. This weekend the unit seems to have cooked itself and locks up or crashes on boot-up. I assume I will have to replace at least one of the hard drives. My question is, is there an easy way to tell which of the two hard drives (the original with the OS on it I assume, or the 120GB I added) is dead. If the original I assume purchasing a new formated HD from Weaknees is the best route to go, but if the 120GB newer drive, should I be able to just swap that out and all is well? I am guessing its the original since I can't seem to even get to the programs list screen, but I wanted to check with people in the know.

    Thanks,
    Matt

You'd really have to put both drives in a PC and test each to see which is causing the problem. We recommend just taking both out and going for one new, larger "replace" kit. Pricewise and timewise, it makes the most sense. See the kits here:
