  • DirecTv D12-300 rcvr and ATT Series 2 Tivo

I have the above hardware and when running through the Guided Setup, I get to a point where it asks about controlling the directv receiver. It says it needs a cable plugged into the tivo and receiver. The receiver does not have these ports. Do I need a different receiver?

    #UPDATE#

I've got the tivo working now. I just have to change the channel on both devices manually. I've noticed that the enter button on the tivo remote sends a signal to the receiver, but numbers don't work. Is there a way I can input an IR code? I've looked at the compatibility thread and the tivo support link on changing the IR code does not work.

You need to use the IR blaster cable that came with your TiVo; the TiVo will send the remote codes to the DIRECTV box to change the channels. Changing the channels on both devices manually completely defeats the purpose of having a DVR, which will record programs when you are not at home.

Yep, I completely agree. Unfortunately, I was given this tivo (my dad got a new one) and he could not find the IR cable. I guess I'll just buy one from here since my local Radio Shack doesn't have one.

They're not the most common part for a store like Radio Shack . . .
        Been here a long time . . .
