  • Grinding Noise?

I replaced my Tivo's hard drive over the weekend, it was on death's door, and I thought I did a pretty good job because everything is running perfectly. But when I fast forward or rewind I can hear a noise inside the machine. It sounds like the chittering of a really small, half dead squirrel or perhaps the grinding of a hard drive. It isn't incredibly loud and I am sitting right next to the machine. I honestly don't remember if it did this before I replaced the hard drive; but is there a chance that I did something horribly wrong?

This is one reason we strongly recommend using drives specifically made for DVRs. What drive are you using? We sell bare DVR drives here:

You might also just try to pull out the drive and reinstall it. Sometimes just getting the screws to an even tightness does the trick.

I bought the drive from WeaKnees specifically for my Hughes Tivo (great instructions). I'm not super strong so I think I'll try tightening the screws.

        OK - don't over-tighten - just evenly tighten.
