  • Hughes SD-DVR120 Freezing up Help Please

My Hughes is about three years old. I recently moved and when I arrived at my new home and hooked up the TiVo it would not get pass the Power Up screen. I bought a new drive from WeaKnees (Upgrade to 160 gb) thinking that was the problem. New drive arrived and installed. TiVo booted and reset and seems great. Two days later after on standby.. TiVo wont come on. Blank screen, no audio, no response to buttons on remote or console. The only way to fix was to unplugg the unit and reboot. Unit booted fine and seemed okay.
A few days later now... Unit is frozen again. Both times the Red record light is lit and I noticed today on the lock up the Green light and Red light are both on and TiVo frozen. Unplug and reboot is all that I could do?

Any Idea what the issue is? Power supply?, Mother board?

I dont want to let this unit go.. I love this TiVo when it works.

Hard to know for sure what is causing the problem. It is not likely a drive, but could be either a power supply or motherboard. Are you finding that the problem occurs when the unit gets too hot? You can see the temperature in the system information screen. Is it rising quickly after you turn it on?

Well, My fan had gone out and it was getting pretty hot at one time. But I have replaced it and the temps are normally about 38 C now most of the time. I came home tonight and the unit is locked up again. No lights on the front. I can hear the fans running and after I unplug it.. the green light comes on and the screen appears to be stuck on the powering up screen

Hard to say for sure, but no lights often indicates a bad power supply. It might be worth trying. You can return it within 30 days (subject to a restocking fee) if it doesn't work.

So could the over heating in the past cause the power supply to go out now? I live in Oklahoma and the ice storm caused all kinds of power surges and ripped the power lines and phone lines right off the house. That was during my move and then trouble after that.

I have already replaced the hard drive, and if I replace the power supply and have no luck, that would only leave the motherboard as the last thing. Does weaknees have motherboards too?
