I have a Phillips DSR704 through Direct TV. I've had growing issues with accessing my Now Playing List. At first, it just took a very long time to have the show listing appear; but now, when I go to Now Playing, it sits on a blank green screen and does one of two things: shows a partial list and then defaults to live tv, or, never shows any show listings and then goes to the gray "Powering Up" screen. I had this problem before and was temporarily fixed but unplugging the set for a little while. It worked again, but for only a month or so. That didn't work this time. It is recording stuff, but I just can not get to it.

Fixable? Replaceable? I'm not very technical, so please advise. Thanks.

You might try a 'clear and delete everything' in the system reset menu to install a clean version of the software and rule out any software issues that might be causing your problem. If the unit can't get out of that C&D process, then you likely need a new hard drive.

Ugh, I hate to lose everything, but I'll try it. If I can get it working without having to buy a new drive, I guess it will be worth it. Thank you!

You may find that it hangs in the process. If so, that makes it pretty clear that you need a new drive.

well, resetting didn't work - so looks like I need a new drive.

I noticed on the weaknees "install the replacement for you" option - it says the TiVo must be in working condition. Does a wornout drive mean that you won't replace it for me?

We can replace it, but we can't copy the data. So just opt for the $49 service charge along with your 'replace' kit.
