Looking for tip for quickly turning captions on and off

I have a THX Series 3 TiVo which I use for over-the-air recording of HD shows. I know how to turn the captioning on and off, but it is several layers into the settings menus. It is there a shortcut to quickly turn the captioning on and off during playback?

There isn't one that we know off. Your TV may have a quicker way to enable/disable this.
