  • Choices Which way do I go??

Looks like hard drive died, the whole family is in mourning. Of course it is up to Dad to fix it. 5 yr old Series 2 w/12.95 mo plan currently. Tivo says I send them 149.00 and dead unit they send me new series2 80 hr D/T and I stay on 12.95 plan. Or... Do I get kit from WK fix dead unit, buy new WK unit 99.00 after rebate, buy from Tivo web 99.00 plus 1yr prepaid 99.00, or???

We have cable no box, updates thru phone hookup. I want to set up network soon. With HD coming 2009 should I be thinking about that in any of this? Any thoughts? Thanks

If you pay TiVo, you'll likely get a refurb, so a used drive. We say either get a new unit, or get a new drive from us. You'll get a brand new drive, and for $139, it'll be twice the size that you have now:

      HDTV in 2009, Clarifying

      "HD coming in 2009"

Not for you as a cable subscriber! Most likely nothing will change for cable subscribers in 2009. The 2009 Digital cut over is for terrestial broadcasters only, not cable companies.

Should you buy a new HD TiVo?

      Depends on whether you have:
      * an HD Capable TV set
      * and HD Content from your cable company.
If you have the hardware and the service now, get the TiVo to match!

If you have normal (SD) service (which I suspect because you mention not having a cable box) then 2009 will not bring HDTV to you. You will need to subscribe to HD Service form the cable company.

If you have an HDTV set and do not have service from the cable company you would need an antenna to pull HD off the air and get it to your TiVo.

If you do not have an HDTV you don't need the cable service or the TiVo HD, just keep watching your cable TV as you do today. Nothing will change in 2009 for you.

It was not my intent to insult or preach with this post, but this cut over is really poorly understood and I would like to help.
