  • Tivo Series3

I've had my S3 for about a year and have been very happy with it. About a month ago I started having various shows on various channels suddenly stop, distort, and then jump ahead 2 to 5 seconds and then resume. It happens on live as well as recorded shows. Watching the same shows on a Tivo without Tivo, there is no distortion or loss.

This is a two cable card s3 than is connected directly to the cable line without a splitter.

After reading information on this forum and the Weaknees website I came to the determination that it might be a hard drive problem so I spent the $400 on a new Weaknees drive. To my dismay the problem was not resolved. It even seems to be getting worse. . .

Can anyone offer any help before I throw away any more money to solve this issue? Weaknees admins can you offer any ideas on how to solve the issue?

Try re-running a piece that has a problem. Are the problems exactly the same the next time? And again? If so, that means the problems were recorded, so either the tuner is bad in your S3, or the CableCARDs may be failing. Both are pretty rare, to be honest. We'd recommend starting with the CableCARDs.

      CableCard fun

Okay so I finally got the Cox technician out and after burning 4 cablecards up by pulling them out during the firmware update because he lacked patience, we finally got down to Multistream cards that took a very short time to update.

However, now every 3 to 4 days the cards stop working and I have to reboot Tivo to get them working again. Any ideas? I'll start surfing the forumns and see if anyone else is having issues with Multistream Cable Cards in a Series3. I understand that they will only run in singlestream mode with the Series3 but I wonder if anyone else's cards are crapping out like this after a few days.

We haven't really seen that. If you don't reboot, can you get the cable company to just reauthorize the cards? If so, is there then the full access?

Sorry, didn't see your reply until now.

I've been rebooting for a month and now it doesn't fix the issue.

I'll try and have the cable company reauth/repair the cards and see if that helps.

I've seen some other forums where tons of folks are having the same issue. Based on reading those its a software problem as its happening to various cablecards (different manufacturers) across different cable networks, and even to folks using OTA instead of cards.
