  • RCA DVR39 (DirecTV) rebooting issues

I have a RCA DVR39 from DirecTV. A couple of days ago it began to reboot on its own. It would power cycle, run through the start up, get the satellite signal, and then I could watch TV fine for 15 minutes. Then it would reboot again and go through the same cycle.

I purchased a new power supply, but the issue continues.

Could it be a bad hard drive? If it is can I just use a partition copying tool, such as Gpart, to copy the partition from one drive to another?

    Thanks,

    Rob

You cannot use a partitioning tool.

In between reboots, do you have any picture quality issues? If you pull the satellite cables from your unit, are you able to watch programming for a longer period of time, or does it still reboot?

The picture seems to be fine in between reboots.

Do you mean to pull the satellite connection and try to watch something that is already record?

Is there a way to duplicate the current disk to a new one?

I turned on my Tivo without the satellite connection and was able to watch recorded programs for over an hour. Still no reboot.

So what is the issue then? Hopefully something that can be fixed.

Sounds like you might have a grounding issue with the satellite cables. You should probably get DirecTV out for a check.

It is possible that the issue is in the TiVo, but it's more likely to be external.
          Been here a long time . . .

I think It might be in the Tivo, because this Tivo belongs to a friend and the issue exists at both our houses. Also, I have two DirecTv Tivos and they work fine.

Is it something that can be fixed in the Tivo?
