  • SVR-2000 with Lifetime. What to do?

Hi, I have a Sony SVR-2000 that as soon as you plug it in it just shows the welcome powering up screen but it just stays at that point forever. What type of repair is this?

This unit has been around a while and has the lifetime, are there options for transferring the lifetime if it was purchased before a certain date or anything like that?-Thanks

Usually, if a unit like yours is stuck on powering up, it needs a new hard drive. You can find drives for your unit here:

    Sony SVR2000 TiVo Hard Drives

Changing hard drives will not cause you to lose lifetime service.

The general rule is that you cannot move lifetime service to a new unit, but if you purchased the service before roughly Jan 2000, then you may be able to transfer.

If I got a working hard drive out of a different SVR-2000 would it work in this one?

Yes, it should work fine assuming that the other unit has a bad drive.
