  • Series 3 Causing probelms with my Toshiba HDTV

Something new has been happening in the last week or two. I've got a Toshiba HD DLP television. When I press the Tivo button to get to the main menu, it causes my television to change "input" from the Tivo input to Antenna 1 (the first selection on my input menu) I have to fool around and re select the Tivo input, and then change the channel to 03 again. This sometimes happens several times until everything settles down and I can watch the Tivo. This may have started happening when I connected my Series 1 to the network and another television in the house. Has anyone else heard of this going on? I tried rebooting everything, and re-entering the Toshiba remote code (first one in the list) but it still happens.

If you're having overlap between the codes, you could just set the TiVo and the TiVo remote to use a discreet code, and then they shouldn't overlap with the TV anymore.

      Maybe...

The problem I am having is not when I press the channel on the remote, but when I press the "Tivo" button and the Tivo changes from whatever I am watching to the Main Menu. It also happes sometimes when I go from the Main Menu to whatever I have chosen to watch. It is almost like the Tivo unit sends something to the TV telling it to change inputs from where it is on TV Channel 3/Input DVR to input Ant 1. Does the Tivo send out an IR code when it does this? I know a friend used his Tivo with direct tv and had the little IR wand that he used to control the sattelite box...but I don't have anything like that...so either the Tivo is sending a spurious signal itself..or sending something over the HDMI line to the TV. Thoughts?

Right, and we are suggesting that you change your remote so that it uses a different set of IR codes for the TiVo.
