i recently replaced my failed drive in a series 2 TIVO with a WK drive. The installation went smoothly, everything booted up. However, a few weeks afterwards, I started getting messages that the Tivo was running out of guide data. I would manually connect (I use a home network), it would complete the connection, process the data, etc., but when I would look, there would still be no updated guide data.
Finally, out of frustration, I reran the guided setup (I didn't have much stored since I had recently changed the drive). It downloaded everything fine, but then about two weeks later, I got the same messages, and no matter what I tried, I coudln't get it to download new guide info. Needless to say, I have verified my network, I have a good IP address, I even once tried connecting thru a phone line. Same results.
I tried calling Tivo Customer Service. They were clueless. They did say that the problem was that the Tivo was hanging on a software update, and that was what was preventing the guide data from updating. They wanted me to send it in and swap it for $150. I declined. This is a non-digital Tivo, and I don't really want to spend much more money on it, since I'll be replacing the TV soon with an HD.
After I got off the phone, I tried running the guided setup again, but without erasing the disk. It did manage to download the guide data for the net two weeks, but it's again stuck and not updating. My question is, could I have messed something up in installing the replacement drive that could be causing this? Has anyone seen this before? I looked thru these and other forums, and so far haven't found anything.
