I have an old Sony Sat T-60 that was deactivated a couple years ago. I called DirecTV and tried to activate it as a new customer, and they flat out refused... suggested I call Tivo and ask them. I'm aware of the history between DTV and Tivo, and I understand why DTV tries to push their own DVR, but WeakNees is selling DirecTV Tivo units to new customers. Why can't I activate this old unit myself? Any suggestions? Will they activate it for existing customers?

I really hate the DTV DVR software, I want my TIVO!
