  • Series 2 still dead with new drive...

    My series 2 (TCD64080) recently died, getting stuck in the Powering up...just a few minutes more...reset cycle.

    I replaced the drive with a new one from Weaknees. Initially, it started up fine, and I got into the initial setup. About the time it started downloading data over the internet, it reset and got stuck in the same going nowhere loop.

    I had the impression it might be somewhat temperature related, since it did OK for about 10 minutes after a cold start, so I ran the thing with the top off. Still kept rebooting.

    Is there anything else I should reasonably try from weaknees, or should I send it back to the factory for service?

    Pretty strange. Are you sure the internal cables are tight? Is it plugged into known-good power?

    How are you connecting: phone line or broadband?

      Yes, good power. It happens both at the television installation and on my work bench.

      Connecting by broadband, but that's not the issue because it keeps resetting even during the Powering up/few minutes cycle

      Unless you think there is any real likelihood the Weaknees replacement drive could be defective, I'm going to have to conclude the problem lies elsewhere in the Tivo (main board or power supply).

      Please advise if you can help in any way, otherwise I'll grit my teeth and deal with factory service

        Well, since it sounds so much like a hard drive problem, I do think we should get the hard drive back her first for testing. Email us at [email protected].
