  • Other TiVo on Network Not Recongized

Last night I installed a new weaknees 300gb drive because of a failing hard drive in my Living Room TiVo. After replacing it with the new drive everything seems to be working fine, EXCEPT that TiVo doesn't recognize my bedroom TiVo as being networked. The bedroom TiVo does see the living room TiVo; however, it doesn't show any programming available and it says "Now playing on Living Room DVR" instead of what I'm used to (i.e., "Living Room DVR"). (Two shows have been recorded so far on the new drive.) I don't remember having this problem when I first bought the second TiVo nor do I remember a problem when I added a second Weaknees drive in it. Any thoughts? I've rebooted both TiVos and the wireless access point, router, and DSL modem. Also, if it matters, I'm using the TiVo wireless adapter on both TiVos.

    Thanks in advance!

In some situations, for no good reason, you need to uncheck "enable video transfers" (that's not the exact wording) for the unit on the TiVo website, then force a dial-in, then re-enable that checkbox, and then force another dial-in.

Post back - that should do it.

I did that but while I was at tivo.com I looked (again) in their forums and found some stuff about software version 8.3 versus 9.1. It said that 9.1 requires all networked DVRs to be on the same version. So since the Weaknees drive came with version 8.1, I did tivo.com/priority in order to get the software update ASAP. Well the update occurred sooner than I expected and by the time I did the first forced dial in, it was downloading the update. Then when I tried to do the second without a reboot it wouldn't let me, so I installed the update and then did the dial-in (since I knew transfers were turn off after the first dial in) and now the bedroom TiVo shows up, so it is either the software version or the need to uncheck/re-check "Allow Transfers" that did it.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

OK - glad to hear you got it. To go from 8.1 to 9.1 shouldn't even need the priority list - that would push down 9.2.

Just as an FYI - Priority update for whatever reason pushed down 9.1 so now both of my TiVos are on 9.1. I hadn't actually verified that until this morning. Just thought you'd be interested in knowing.

OK - I may have the exact OS versions in my mind crossed with the TiVo models. It's the HD units that are getting 9.2.
