  • Frozen Tivo

I recently purchased a new Tivo box (model #TCD540080) not from Tivo, from a private party. I went through the installation with no problems everything was fine for a couple of days until I recieved the spring 2007 update, the morning after the update I turned on tv and the tivo was frozen and completely unresponsive, I had to unplug the unit and plug it back in to get it going. Now every other day or so it freezes and I have to repeat the process, any suggestions? Hardrive? Help me please

Probably, that's a bad hard drive. You should try a new replace kit from here:

I think I have the same problem. I haven't connected the phone line for several months, when I got tired of the 'make the telephone call' message when accessing the List. So, I hooked up the telephone line and proceeded to make the call. The unit (SAT T-60) worked fine until it was powered off that night. When I turned it on in the morning, it was frozen at the gray "Welcome. Powering up..." screen. Unplugging and pluggin back in does nothing. There's no bootup time even...it just seems to appear on the screen immediately when I power on the unit.

      Hard drive? or something else?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

***I think I've found the answer in another thread. Thanks!***

FYI - for anyone else, that's almost definitely a hard drive. A "replace" kit should fix it.

As I stated in my original post, my Tivo box gets locked up, the picture is frozen when I turn on the tv in the morning, I have never seen it lock up while Im watching tv. You suggested a new hard drive, which I purchased from you and I still have the same problem, any suggestions? Can I return the new hard drive that I guess I didnt need?

Yes, just email us with the order number to return the drive.

The problem is pretty strange. Could you have power issues? Do you have a UPS? More info is here:
