IR Repeater hook up

I have a new Tivo Series 3 (cable version) installed in a cabinet with my other components (so the remote does not work without a repeater). Where is the best place to attach my IR repeater on the front of the Series 3? I currently have it in front of the opaque circle to the right of the display--it works, but it is sluggish.

It's roughly in the middle of the unit, in the frontmost portion. The live area basically ends where the "format" button begins.
