  • Serie3 Cablecard error message 161-2

Has anyone seen this message? 161-2 on Card #2. Also the series 3 won't call in as the modem keeps telling me either the line is in use or it cannot connect. I just switched to VoiP with Cablevision today and the phones are working fine otherwise.

Modems in TiVos are notorious for not liking VoIP. We have an external TiVo modem kit for people using VoIP, but better yet, why not just connect via broadband? You can find a wireless adapter on our networking pages, or you can use the wired connection right in the TiVo.

And that error generally means the card is malfunctioning and needs to be swapped out by Cablevision.

I got it working with a wireless router. I love the Tivo HD but I hate Cablevision's lineup. It's just not arranged logically. If DirecTv ever re-opens there deal with Tivo I am back to them.

Did you get the CableCARD error fixed?

Maybe someday TiVo will do away with channel numbers and just let you organize your channels in folders . . .

It wasn't seated in the slot correctly and when the tech came back she just secured it better. It worked fine last night. The remote is a bit different then the DirecTivo remote. I wish they would put the "List" button back on for more direct access to recorded shows. Other than that there are no complaints with either the Series 2 or the HD machine.

          Thanks.

OK - pretty amazing that the card just needed reseating, but if it works, great.
