I just posted one question regarding power-ups, but I have another: (Again, I am a long-term Directv subscriber, using two TiVo machines.) Because I am using older TiVo's, my units dial out every night using the phone line. I am in a rural area where there are no local access numbers, and in the past (and still one of my two TiVo's) Directv has downloaded an 800# so I don't pay $30/mo in nightly dialup fees. Recently I did a full clear and delete on one machine and that process wiped out the 800#. I have been calling and arguing, begging and pleading with DTV since Sept 21st to download that 800# option for me again! They say they have to get Supervisor approval and must also receive something from TiVo proper... but I don't understand exactly who actually provides the 800#, DTV or TiVo, or whether it comes via the phone line or satellite.
I guess the short question is, can I simply unplug my phone line to avoid $1/night dial-ins, and plug it in just every 14 days for the mandatory dial-in (every 14 days I will get a message saying a call has not been made)?
