My DirecTV Series2 TiVo has been freezing up and has been randomly rebooting during live viewing and recorded playback. Are these the first signs of a deteriorating hard drive? Should I look into a replacement hard drive kit? Could it be something else? Thanks for the feedback.

That really does sound like a bad hard drive - those are pretty much the classic symptoms. Just be sure to get a replace kit:
