  • Phillips 7000/17 Freezing?? Help

I have a Phillips DSR7000/17 with SW version 6.3e01-2-101. All HW is original. We had a Power outage and since then the system will freeze and I have to reboot. I reset the system and it was healthy for about 2 weeks, the freezing is happing again. it does not happen when watching live tv??

Any suggestions? Has the HD gone bad or is it a SW bug??

It may be a software bug. We have had a number of customers report similar problems with 6.3e; I would recommend that you wait for an update, which will hopefully fix whatever is going on.

Ok, that is what i thought after I read some other threads. Is there anyway to back rev the current software??

Not easily. You could buy a new drive from us with the older software and keep it unplugged so that it doesn't update, but there's no way to do it yourself if you don't have a separate copy of the OS.

ok, thanks for the quick reply. If it gets too annoying I may just buy a new drive. If I were to buy a new drive, what is the least expensive for this 7000 model and do I have to special request an older version of software? or will it come with an older version regardless. I guess I just leave it unplugged from the phone until I see a fix out there...

Currently, we're shipping 6.2.x. We're unlikely to ship a newer version until these issues get worked out.

The least expensive drive for that unit is $119:

Directv software 6.3e problems on DSR 7000

In late August of 2007 my original hard drive died. I purchased a new Hard Drive from Hinsdale. Everything seemed to work fine for a few days and the picture started freezing and dropping audio. Last week I purchased a second new drive from WeaKnees and I have the same problem. The drive was installed last Sunday and the problems started on Tuesday apparently after the software updated. Is there any solution in sight? I hate to drop Directv but the best alternative may be using 2 stand alone recievers into a PC system. From what I am reading, I won't be upgrading to HDTV or a new DVR soon with the current problems being posted about the new units.

You could get another drive and let it dial in to establish service, then pull the phone line so that it can't dial in - that'll prevent it from installing software updates.

                  3rd replacement drive since August

3rd replacement drive Not a good option for me. I would suggest that Weaknees include a "Caution" in the installation instructions and on the front page of your web site about the known software problems. I really do not need 2 more external hard drives for my computer as it is. Thanks for the suggestion. What would it cost me to have Weaknees reformat my 2 new drives?
