Expected Hard Drive Life

I have just ordered my second replacement drive for my Direct TV HD10-250 Tivo. The last one was installed in May 06, so lasted about 16 months. It seems that's about as long as the original drive lasted.
Is this about par for the course, or have I just been unlucky?

Drive life varies based on many factors, such as heat, operating environment (pets, smoke, etc.), handling, etc. We strongly recommend a UPS to help your drive's life:

We have many customers who have had drives for 6+ years without a problem.
