  • Dial Tone Error

I just got a new Hard Drive for my Phillips Series 1 Tivo. I installed it and did all the initial set up and everything worked perfectly.

However since then - it has not been able to make a succesfull Daily call in weeks. I searched some of the other threads and have done what they said (disabled line detect and listened as TIVO made the call) -
For the "Make Test Call" it will do one of two things:
1.) most often it will connect on the test call and interact with a modem on the other end but then just dies and the error "Failed. No Dial Tone"
2.) rarely it will get to the "connecting" stage and then hang up and say "Failed. Service not answering"

For the "Make Daily Call" it doesn't even get to the dial (it makes a high pitch noise and then) : "Failed. No Dial Tone"

I have Verizon DSL and have tried with/without the filter multiple combinations. I took a regular phone to the end fo the TIVO line and I do have a dial tone.

I was able to make one succesfull test call but now it will not do anything the way it is supposed to. I was going to try to manually input a different dial in number but for some odd reason it has to make a call (which of course it can't) before it will allow you to change the number?

    Please help!

    Bump + new info

    Hello all,

Any advice would still be welcome.

After doing research on these forums I found that people suggested listening in on TIVO as it was attempting to dial in and that may give some input.

I have found that if I put my phone on speaker just as TIVO gets to the "housekeeping" part of the daily call - the call will go through just fine and it will download the updates. If I turn off the phone or turn it off of speaker the call is lost and it says that no dial tone was found.

I replaced my hard drive with a Weaknees one and then this started to happen - prior to that it would make daily calls without issue.

Currently I am having to do the speaker phone trick every weekend to get updates but that sucks.

    Any ideas? PLEASE help.

    Thanks

The drive itself will not cause you to fail to dial out...you should probably put the old drive in and confirm that it still dials, and if it does, make sure that the dialing settings in that drive are the same as those in the new drive.
