    Bare DirecTV Tivo unit questions

    Hello,

    I have a Hughes HDVR2 on the fritz. I am certain that the SAT2 tuner is shot so I am looking to replace it. I am seriously considering on of your bare direcTV Tivo units and have a couple questions.
    • Can I simply swap out the two hard drives from my current machine and put them into the replacement Tivo?
    • Will all my programming remain or do I need to reinitialize the drives?
    • Do I need to inform DirecTV of the new machine or does my existing card allow me full access?


    I actually installed the additional hard drive (88 hours) a few years back that I purchased from you folks. I did not put in an additional fan or upgrade my fan. I have heard that this is recommended when you are running dual drives. Should I look into it this time?

    1a) yes, but you will need to perform a "clear and delete everything" for the drive to initially with the new unit
    2a) unfortunately, no. see 1a
    3a) yes, you will need DTV to pair your existing card with the new machine. disconnect your old tivo from the sat cables before moving the card, though, so you can still watch what's been recorded on there.
    4a) never a bad idea to add extra cooling. the fan you need costs $9 and is available here:

      Thanks for the quick response!

      I have a couple more questions before I place my order:
      • Does the Bare DTV Tivo come equipped with the twin breeze setup? I want to install a second fan.
      • Do you provide deatiled directions on installing the two hard drives? The directions I received on adding the drive a few years ago were very good.

        1a) No, the bare TiVo is simply the factory chassis without the hard drive; you would need to buy a TwinBrezze bracket separately
        2a) Instructions for our kits come included with the bracket and are available for download in color off of our website
