Replacing totally dead hard drive

Hi!
I have a Hughes series 2 DVR that is out of service due to a dead hard drive. It looks like Weakness upgrades only work if you have the original OS, correct? So if the original HD is totally dead, I assume the original OS is gone. Is there a solution for that, or am I looking at a new TiVo unit?

The "ADD" kits only work with the original hard drive, assuming you want to use one of our drop-in kits.

But you can certainly buy a formatted "REPLACE" drive to work in your unit. You can choose from a list of drive sizes once you specify your model here:
